Financial Services
As
seen in the growth of online banking, ATMs, electronic trading/brokering
services and online insurance quotes, technology is transforming
the way financial companies interact with their customers. Therefore,
there is a need for highly skilled employees for depository financial,
non-depository financial, securities and commodities, and insurance
institutions.
The financial services industry is particularly well represented
across the Corridor. The Tampa Bay area contains the most financial
services companies in the state, and it ranks 20th in the nation
in terms of domestic financial services employment. The sector’s
presence in the Corridor began in 1969 when MetLife built an office
in Tampa, followed by other financial services powerhouses such
as Citicorp, Chase Manhattan, Saloman Brothers and Raymond James
Financial.
As financial services is a new sector of the Florida High Tech
Corridor, the Council is actively researching the sector’s
revenue, employment and total company numbers.
