Metro Orlando Students
Offered New Technology Degree Programs
Efforts to develop the region's
high tech workforce have resulted in two new degree programs. First,
working with local high tech companies and the Florida Photonics
Cluster (http://www.floridaphotonics.com/), Valencia
Community College and UCF are offering a two-plus-two program in
optics and photonics that will train students to be technicians for
this fast growing sector. Also, students at Daytona Beach Community
College (DBCC) will enroll this fall in a two-plus-two program in
modeling, simulation and training. The program has been developed in
conjunction with UCF. Linda Brent, director at L3 Communications (an
industry partner), said, "DBCC rose to the challenge to lead a
consortium of local community colleges in the quest to start a
program to attract young people to the field of simulation. They,
along with the Florida High Tech Corridor Council and National
Training Systems Association, have forged a new path to start a
two-year program in simulation technician training." For more
information on these programs visit http://www.dbcc.cc.fl.us and http://www.valencia.cc.fl.us.
