UCF Receives Funding
to Help Improve Airport Screening
With a $210,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration, researchers
at the University of Central Florida (UCF) are studying learning techniques
to understand how to best train airport screeners to pick out threatening
objects as they pass through X-ray machines. The findings, along with the
results of similar studies at other universities, will help the FAA and the
Transportation Security Administration determine the best procedures to
train new screeners.

Embry-Riddle Receives
FAA Certification
Daytona-Beach’s Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University has received the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA)
certification of an MD-90 EFD Level-D full-flight simulator. The university
plans to use the simulator in its Commercial Airline Pilot Training (CAPT)
Program. The device accurately replicates all of the operational ground and
flight functions of the MD-90 EFD jet, which allows the FAA to consider
hours logged in the simulator equal to time logged in an actual aircraft.
