Career Expo is a one-of-a-kind national conference hosted by the Florida High Tech Corridor Council (FHTCC) in partnership with economic development, workforce and governmental organizations, introduces university career center directors (CCDs) from many of the nation’s top universities to the diverse and rewarding high tech job opportunities offered by Florida High Tech Corridor companies.
Career Expo ‘08, which was held at the Tampa Convention Center on Feb. 28 - 29, gave Corridor high tech companies the opportunity to discuss their hiring needs with the participating CCDs, who combined provide career advice to tens of thousands of highly skilled graduates each year.
The 2007 inaugural event held in Orlando featured CCDs from 60 of the nation’s top universities including Princeton, NYU, Northwestern, Penn, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon and Notre Dame, as well as the University of Central Florida (UCF), the University of South Florida (USF) and the University of Florida (UF). Company participants included Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Coca-Cola, Harris Corporation, Fiserv and Universal Orlando.
The Career Expo initiative was developed by FHTCC to accomplish two goals: help high tech Corridor companies meet their recruitment needs; and, show CCDs the tremendous opportunities the Corridor provides, thereby increasing the likelihood that the Corridor will be one of the first places they recommend to students starting high tech careers.
The next Career Expo is set to take place in 2010 in Orlando.
